Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our little world that we miss all that is going on around us. Have you not heard of these things? What things? Those on the Emmaus walk were in shock. They couldn't put things in perspective. How often do we stumble along living in the past, wondering "what if" instead of being attuned to the reality of now? How often do we miss the plight of others because we are so caught up in navel gazing?
Just what gives us pause to stop? Sometimes it seems so hard to be still and know that God is God. We get lured into thinking we are driving the ship, charting our fate. It is only when we pause to break bread, nourish our bodies and souls that we catch a glimpse of God's presence with us. But instead of engaging in that meal, we prefer to just go through the drive through. Recognizing God in our midst takes time and attention, a willingness to be open to all the things going on around us.
What things have you missed while in the wilderness? What things prevent you from seeing and hearing the glory of God? What things are you missing that would help you be the person God wants you to be? What things are holding you back? What things are moving you forward? What things?
May we come to see clearer all things as we near Holy Week. May we not miss those things which are painful to see, and yet life giving and transforming.
Pastor Joy,
ReplyDeleteThanks for these thoughts this morning. These Lenten devotions are speaking words of inspiration and challenge and healing into my life. I am thankful for this season.

This story of the road to Emmaus has become so much more meaningful to me this week as I read and think about these meditations! What more will I see if I continue meditating on Scripture after this Lenten journey ends?
